Carpe Diem’s Tanka Shrine #2

Carpe Diem’s Tanka Shrine #2, Ishikawa Takuboku’s ”on the white sand”

For this episode ,Kristjaan, our host at Carpe Diem has chosen a Tanka by Ishikawa Takuboku.

On the white sand
Of the beach of a small isle
In the Eastern Sea
I, my face streaked with tears,
Am playing with a crab

(c) Ishikawa Takuboku

The challenge is to write a new Tanka in the same tone, sense and spirit as Ishikawa.

This I found to be be very tough. However, here is my feeble attempt at writing a Tanka in the same spirit.

Drinking deeply from
the chalice of life,we cough
choke,even throw up
but love helps us breathe again
in this wilderness of pain
