Retrospect
Drop by drop I sipped
from the wine of love
Never noticed how
my lips turned blue
Bit by bit I partook
from passion’s loaf
Failed to see when
it grew cold and stale
Brick by brick
I built castles in the air
But forgot to take care
termites of mistrust laid them bare
Thread by thread I wove
this tapestry of life
But closed my eyes to the
moths of strife
Knew not when
my knight’s shining armour
Turned red with rust
While his white steed
turned to grey dust
Little by little it all dawns on me
as I turn and look back,
woe is me!
Seam by seam I unravel
the knots in my heart
Beam by beam I tear down
our love story apart.

Fantastic metaphors in this, love the ‘termites of mistrust’. Beautiful imagery and poignant mood. Love it!
Oh Sarah, you are always so kind-thank you for the sweet comment:-)Will catch up with your page now xx
Sometimes things change with relationships as time goes on, but it is really sad when a love story unravels and comes to an end. A poignant poem here.
So true!Thank you for reading Mary-have had no time since last nite but am off to read and comment on as many as i can as soon as I finish responding to the comments on mine:-)
hindsight has 20-20 vision 🙂
maybe it was all worth it though, even if only for a while.
cleverly imaged with your step-by-step dismantling.
Ha!ha!I agree about hindsight Hanna:-)Thank you so much for reading and for the cute comment 🙂
It’s sad when things go like this.. I know I read a poem this week on the right opposite.. on how to build a love that just grows… you metaphors arevery nice..
I agree-reading positive things about love gives us all hope for most of us love to believe in the magic of love :-)Thank you so much for reading and the feedback Bjorn”:-)
ouch…def, there are times we dont notice the decline til too late…and then we wonder how it happened…love takes maintenance regularly to ensure it lasts…
I so agree Brian and yes it is a daily effort -like watering a plant but sadly few understand that.Thank you so much for the feedback and the read–have had no time since last nite but am off to read and comment on as many as i can as soon as I finish responding to the comments on mine:-)
Well this was a sad story if everything is unraveling and tearing down the love apart ~
Yes,it is and when we see such unraveling around us,it breaks our hearts-sigh!Tank you so much Grace for stopping by to read and for the lovely comment:-)

excellent images… if we’re not careful, things can fall apart so quickly..it’s sad
Thank you Claudia and yes,I agree,we need to be vigilant:-)
Oh, I think many of us will identify that. The mistrust is the lethal factor. Sad, yet true to life.
Yes,it is and sometimes we do not see it setting in:-)Thank you so much Victoria for taking time out to read my poem and thank you for the feedback too:-)
It is indeed sad when a story comes to a close, and probably worse when this has not been foreseen.
Thank you for your lovely birthday wishes!
True:-)Thank you Gabriella for taking time to come by to read and comment:-)
Life as a tapestry is a very poetic and philosophical statement…the story is sad but the poem is excellent.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Ronald:-)
This is so sad! I love the imagery and metaphors throughout, but especially “termites of mistrust” – that says so much about the destructive nature of mistrust. Funny how we often see the ruins when looking back, but can’t see things tumbling down when were in the midst of it!
Thank you my dear-yes it is true-sigh!And hey,so glad to see that you won -congrats-very well deserved and happy that Sam & me voted correctly ;-)Will mail you today,tc xx
