Ginger’s orange coat shimmered as she climbed the wall.

A loud burst of music startled her.

The neighbours were at it again-what did they call it? Jam session!

It was not that she did not like music but they needed to take lessons from her boyfriend.

Ah, when Tom serenades her even his friends can’t resist joining-the flirtatious rogues!

She did not socialize readily but tonight the delicious smell wafting over warranted a visit.

Nobody noticed her as she made her way to the dining table till someone cried out, “What a cute cat!”

Meow! So much for dinner…

It has been a hectic week till now & going to be so till next weekend, but I could not do without my Trifecta “fix” 😛 So,before the bell tolled,& time ran out, here I am with my submission.

When he came calling..

He watched them from the shadowy hallway.

The family was at Dinner.Annie the old Housekeeper was bustling around.

Roger, the trusted Butler was supervising the footmen in his usual, calm manner.

At the head of the table, sat Christopher, the monarch, sans the regal robes, sceptre and the crown. He smirked at the  thought.Christopher had started small but now at 58, he ran the multi-million dollar business with the ease & panache of one born to it.

On his right, sat his beautiful & equally regal consort, Lila. Her smile was  sparkling yet, as hard as a 24 carat diamond. She looked not a day over 40,but was actually 52.Few knew about her humble beginnings but most remembered her rise to stardom at just 20 & her subsequent marriage at 22, to young Christopher,a Harvard graduate .

In front of her sat their  daughter, the sweet & adorable,Gwen, all of twenty three. Her beauty shone like the Sun,dazzling everyone.

Next to her,sat her brother Nicolas, twenty nine. His stern demeanour & obsession with discipline ,belied his youth. He was the serious one in the family, with a Wharton degree under his belt.

Lila was flanked by her aunt Gracie on her right,a sixty something, bubbly & spirited woman who delighted everyone with her incessant banter.

Gracie  was chatting animatedly to Prudence, the elder daughter of the house.Prudence was 25 and had  both  brains & beauty.

On the seventh chair sprawled Damon,26, the darling of the family. Aided by his innocent good looks , he oozed charm .He never failed to be amused at his family’s efforts to get him to be serious.

A  picture perfect family!

Well,it is time to prick their bubble,he reflected. He had  the  goods on each of them & not one was  clean!

Wait till I start turning the pages of their history-what a read that would be!

Let me start with the head, he told himself, chuckling inwardly, as he stepped into the Dining Hall.

Won’t they be surprised to know that this family has another heir in waiting!

Murder on the menu

The palatial house enthralled the guests.

The raven haired hostess looked resplendent in her black & white silk gown. Her almond eyes were limpid pools of molten honey. Her skin?Cream & peaches. When she smiled, her rose bud lips looked dipped in dew.

Allan could not take his eyes off her & started to move towards her.Just then he saw that blackguard Chris, reach out & take her hand.He burnt with rage.

“You wait, you mongrel!Tonight is going to be your last night. She has promised to be mine & nothing can stop me now,”he thought. As he patted the sachet of powder  in his breast pocket, Allan’s eyes gleamed.

Chris bent to take her lily white hand & smiled  into her eyes. She is such an angel. She had looked so  vulnerable when she had told  him how that nincompoop ,Allan, had been troubling her.

“I am going to ask her to marry me as soon as I remove that scoundrel Allan, from her life. Tonight I am going to put an end to his pestering ways,”he told himself. He was going to doctor Allan’s drink, when they sat down  to dinner. He smiled happily at the thought.

She had been watching them surreptitiously, favouring first one then the other with a smile here,a look there.Keep them guessing she thought, smiling inwardly. She had played her cards well. She was enjoying playing them against each other.

Each thought that she was besotted with him-ha!

Men!Such fools!

The chase was fun but once they fell under her spell, she lost interest.

Money? She had accumulated enough over the last six years from her three ex

husbands–all three sleeping peacefully forever-well,not peacefully maybe ,she smirked. She had the sense not only to doctor their meals & medicines, but also the documents ,such that everything came to her after their demise.

This time around, she was doing it for the sheer fun of it.Her eyes sparkled at the thought of the scandal ,the news that all this would make.A double murder for the entrée-yum!She could hardly wait for dinner to start.
