Trifecta: Week Ninety-Nine
Yes,Trifecta has reached its 99th week-a milestone indeed!Congrats to the Trifecta team and am so glad that I found this site and the community for my journey as a flash fiction writer(of sorts) has started with them-so thank you Trifecta:-)
This week Trifecta has this on the menu for us-
This week we are giving you a page from the Oxford English Dictionary. The ninety-ninth page, to be exact. From this page, you can choose any word, any definition, to use in your post. (Please type your chosen word in bold, so we know.) And instead of our typical 33-333 word limit, we are asking for 99 words exactly.
I have chosen the word “Baby ” and here is my piece:-)
There was no moon that night. It had been raining. The moist, dank smell of rotting leaves permeated the atmosphere.
A man dug ferociously, darting furtive glances at the bundle lying on the muddy path.
Clad in black robes with a vermilion mark on her forehead, the woman looked possessed.
He finished digging the grave, sweat dripping from his face.
Her kohl-lined eyes glittered madly. She said, “Do it-NOW!”
Picking up the bundle, he lowered it into the grave.
The woman started chanting loudly.
The baby began wailing.
He smiled and started shovelling the mud onto his daughter’s body…
