FRIDAY FICTIONEERS

Time again to have some fun at FF where our wonderful host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields manages to attract more than 100 writers from all over the world every week. These talented writers respond to a photo prompt and come up with 100 or so words of fiction or poetry. This week the photo below is provided by Janet Webb.

Have been a little busy as my daughter’s 18th Birthday is coming up this Saturday and I have been running around trying to get the invitations out and shopping and stuff. However,I promise to read  this week’s submission without fail by next Monday.

Post Valentine

Hi Camellia! How was Valentine’s Day?

Oh Kara, don’t even ask!

Why what happened?

I think I need some strong coffee first.

The aroma of fresh coffee perked them up.

Well Kara, I was shocked to see that Kevin had ordered red wine. Eww! You know how I hate red wine!”

Awful!

And imagine, there were no chocolates or flowers!

OMG! Such a cheapskate! Did he give a gift?

My portrait painted by him! So ugly!

Bah! Kick him out of your life.

Oh, I already did.

Fantastic! His loss sweetie! Let’s go shopping.

Let’s! I need retail therapy.

Forever…always

Your honeyed lies dazzle me. Am too myopic to see the veil of deception. The sword of reality cuts deep. I bleed tears. You leave. The acid of betrayal spills, turning the basin red.

The agony of it all

Sometimes I sit back and wonder  that when you wrap your arms around other women-the new ones-who have fallen prey to your charms or even some of the old flames, who like me, have not yet learnt their lesson, what goes on in your treacherous heart?

Even as a young boy, you looked so sure of yourself and though girls swooned at the mere mention of your name, you seemed oblivious to their charms. Did you know that you were our collective Prince charming-every girl‘s secret crush? I was one of the crowd-never hoping to even catch your eye but how I loved you! No, I did not tell anyone-it was my secret and I hoarded it like a squirrel hoards nuts for winter.

Years rolled by and though I did not see you for a decade, still my heart held on to hope-the hope you had never given me. Life came full circle and we met. Circumstances were different and I found consolation in being your friend.

But, fate had something else in store. A weak moment and the secret locked within escaped my lips. That proved to be my undoing.

Our equation changed. You started working your magic on me, wooing me subtly at first and then more boldly. My heart blossomed under your loving touch and though a little mouse called doubt kept nibbling at my trust, I stoically looked the other way. Soon, you had me where you wanted-under your thumb. You owned me body and soul.

Game over.

Only a few scraps of love could be salvaged from that wreckage of emotional debris which you left behind. I was too naive to understand your mind games and your cold indifference killed all my self-esteem.

Still, somewhere deep down, I hope that you felt something akin to love and that you remember, like you said you always will.

But, am deluding myself, for it cannot be true -simply because, for you to remember would mean you loved me too!

Imprisoned

You tether my soul

with chains of your  love.

You rejoice-

eyes set on someone new!

Wearing the crown of victory

erases me-

Here,

I ache with longing

in my loft of loneliness.
